Today's Musical Selection: Dr Zhivago

Dr Zhivago
(With kind permission of Don Carroll)

Life is too short. No matter how preoccupied we may be with our everyday's problems, it is nice once in a while to sort of stop short, say "enough", bend down, and take the time to smell the flowers, so to speak. The sole purpose of this 'one topic' issue is to bring you an opportunity to do just that. The trip you are about to embark upon might stay imprinted in your memory for years to come. No, I am not kidding...

Before rushing to that site I would first urge you to review what I have previously written about using the application Secret Agent, along with Netscape. Visiting and reading every possible pages of this site I am sending you to 'online' might easily take hours, several hours and, sadly, you would have no record of them for later viewing. By following the method I have recommended, you can easily download them all, using a 28k modem and three open Netscape windows in approximately two hours. Your Secret Agent 'dump' will be approximately 8 to 10 Megs and you will be able to save the lot to disk for later viewing at your own leasure and, offline! More importantly still, you will then be able to view them over and over, or to show them to others, as I am sure you will want to do.

I was totally taken by the authors' incredible ability to make us feel, through their writing and photography, as if we were there with them, not merely as observers but as participants. You follow their progress in 'The Daily Chronicles'. Then, you can view expanded photo essays and captivating stories in their 'Road Stories' section. One of those stories entitled "100 Years of Revolution " one family's hundred year odyssey through Russian history as told through five generations, captivated me so much that I had to read it 'online', going against my basic rule never to do so. Another story not to be missed is that of a young Russian soldier's story, the words of a dead soldier from Chechnya's battlefield as heard through the memories of his family and in his last letters. Extremely poignant! And there are ten more such incredible 'stories'

The following musical selections have been chosen for this journey: Dr. Zhivago and Evergreen While admiring the sunset, try this concerto or Midnight! Of course, you will find more beautiful musical selections in the Music Page. And now, on to Africa with Arold!

So, as they say at the theatre, "without further ado, let us proceed...

Having travelled through Russia with your hosts, you may hunger for more... Fear not, help is on the way. The following site offers more of the same. Do not miss "Witnesses of an Age : Residents of Leningrad " nor "St. Petersburg Photo Gallery "

And, finally, for an incredible Homepage that will literally blow you away, do not miss

If you have enjoyed this 'Quality time moment', why not drop me a line. I am always in search of new ideas so, if you have a special topic you would like to see covered at length, let me know.

That's it Folks !!!
